Did Jesus turn the water into wine or did he convince the servers of the famous wedding banquet that they had the ability to do these (and greater) things? Did Peter sink in the water due to his lack of faith in Christ Himself or in his lack of faith in what Christ was telling him to be true (that he could walk on water)? Does the difference matter?
Always question or never question. If you sometimes question, you will ultimately fall into the habit of thinking you have some supernatural ability to know what should be questioned and who and what to never question.
This is arrogant, as it leads to the conclusion that you know…well…everything!
People that sometimes question end up deciding who and what to question based on the group or situation they find themselves in. These people end up as either tools, enemies, or both.
Always questioning will eventually teach you to question with love, grace and respect. These lessons are difficult, uncomfortable and often costly. Those unwilling to “pay” for such lessons are doomed to become the tools and enemies discussed above…they are doomed to question when it’s easy and blindly accept when it’s difficult.
note: one must understand that an (honest) question is a not a statement structured for the purposes of leading an opponent into a “mistake.” This is not “questioning.” This tactic is merely an attempt to trick another into making a statement that fits into your script. Unfortunately, many people do not realize that the success of this trick has no bearing on the validity an argument covered in that script.
