CHICAGO – Methodist bishops, meeting in response to the recent controversy surrounding the defeat of gender equity affirmations.  The bishops engaged in a prayerful process to discern a way forward.  At the conclusion of the discernment process, guided by the mission, vision and scope document, the bishops agreed to recommend the One Church Plan. It seems to me that the Bible is used by some Christians not to begin a discussion of the Divine…but to end it, often before the conversation has even started. It is not used as the starting point of what it means to be human…it is the end of that discussion.
